Joel,
I love this sight already - I'm gonna inhale this stuff.
I'm new to still studio work and even newer to videography. Man! I wish I could work for you. I'm retired and I'm cheap. Alas.

Best Regards,
Alan Mitchell

I have never used the 900 watt-second models. They should give you an extra 1/2 stop more than the 600-watt version. If you decide on the 1820As, let me know how they fare. Take care!

George,
You are correct. The Flashpoints feature an average flash duration. T5 at full power is 1/1000 of a second. However, this is not too bad considering the outstanding color consistency of +-50 degrees per stop.

Alien Bees have faster flash durations, but suffer in the color consistency department. The Einsteins have a t5 flash duration of 1/1600, at full power, in "Constant Color" mode. If you operate the Einstein at half power, or 320ws, you get a whopping 1/1600 t1 duration in "Constant Color" mode. However, the Einsteins cost over 200 dollars more than the Flashpoints.

I used to shoot with Calumet Travelite 750s. They are great units, but only have a t5 flash duration of 1/650 of a second at full power. (They also cost twice as much as the Flashpoints.) Using the Travelites, I shot basketball and dance, all with great success. (They froze the action with minimal blur.)

In my opinion, the Flashpoints give you the best bang for your buck. Hope this comparison helps. Take care!
